Frequently asked questions.
What kind of clients do you work with?
We work with all kinds of folks, including couples, families, and individuals. We work with depression, anxiety, trauma, gender exploration, sexuality exploration, intimacy questions and concerns, and neurodivergent people. Much of our client population is queer and neurodivergent, but these are not required to work with us. We work with people who have never done therapy before, as well as people who have tried various kinds of therapy. We also work with fellow clinicians.
What does starting therapy look like?
We offer a free 15 minute online consultation to see if working together is a good fit. If you want to work with us you’ll be put in contact with the reception folks with Lycan Counseling to finish the paperwork needed to onboard with us. The first session of therapy is an intake session that is usually 90 minutes long to go over background questions. The second session is focused on talking about goals for therapy.
What kind of therapist is Heidi?
Heidi has a MS degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and works from a relational and systemic lens. Modalities are shared on the “About” page as well. Heidi brings a level of humor and acceptance to therapy with the goal of clients feeling seen and heard.
What’s with the name?
Many people recognize the symbols and name as a nerdy reference to the short rest mechanic in Dungeons and Dragons. This comes from the idea that resting for about an hour can bring a level of recharge and healing (in the form of hit dice in D&D). You don’t have to be a gamer or a nerd to work with Short Rest, but it is a bonus that you’ll be asked what games you enjoy and what classes you play in D&D.
